Building my K.I.T.T.

6 years after the first paint-job, some old rust started to break trough again. There already were some tiny bubbles under the paint and I also had a break in the paint for some years now. The rust now has been completely removed and the hood has been galvanized and re-painted.

Today, K.I.T.T. received new tires and tailgate lift supports. Now, the tailgate finally stays opened again. He also got new wipers and passed the German vehicle technical inspection with no complaints.

Already 4 years ago the TÜV pointed out to me that sooner or later K.I.T.T.'s underbody and cavities should be sealed, so that's what we did now. During the work it turned out that there was also a lot of work in the wheel housings. Some of the metal sheets had to be re-welded. But now the car is also "in good shape" underneath.

During the shooting for "Cup of Joe" in February in Berlin, an umbrella landed on the hood of K.I.T.T. during a shooting break because of strong wind. The result were 3 deep scratches in the front nose and the hood of the car, which were unfortunately so deep that the front and hood had to be completely repainted.

Today, K.I.T.T. received new headlight motors, because the headlights didn't open and close properly anymore. Afterwards, he passed the German vehicle technical inspection with no complaints.

K.I.T.T. new paintjob was already more than 14 years ago, so it was time to have the paint professionally reconditioned. My buddy Kevin has offered me for years to take over the job, so I left the car at his garage during my vacation for a complete paint refurbishment.

For some time my PMD driver's seat had a small hole on the side, which I have now had repaired by a smart repair service. The result is great.

After almost 35 years in some places of the decorative trim inside the driver's door panel, the black paint began to flake off and light flash rust formed. After some sanding and repainting, it now looks good again.

For more than 13 years I have been planning to install an MP3 module to make K.I.T.T. speak at any time by pressing a button. After several failed attempts, it finally worked out...

Now that the MP3 module finally works, I connected another relay board with remote control. 8 buttons can activate the most important sound folders, from each of which several sounds are played randomly.

Now that the MP3 module finally works via remote control, the scanner should of course also finally be able to be switched on and off again via remote control. A cheap module helped here.

My K.I.T.T. is now almost 37 years old. This means that parts need to be serviced and replaced from time to time. Now it was the turn of the rear brake and exhaust system.

I had the complete car repainted 18 years ago. And even though it still looked great at first glance, a lot of rust had formed in the meantime, making a repaint necessary.

I sent K.I.T.T. to the paint shop for a partial repaint. The first step was to remove the rear side deflectors, the taillights and the rear bumper and roughly sand down the rusty areas.

K.I.T.T. has changed the hall. In the meantime, the rusty areas have been completely exposed and the rust almost completely removed.
