"Back To The Future" fan meeting 2026

In addition to my replica project, I'm a huge fan of the "Back to the Future" trilogy and the webmaster of the largest German fan site dedicated to the movies, www.ZidZ.com
This fan site is home to a community of more than 9,000 members. From 2003 to 2012, we regularly organized small fan meetings so that people who had met on the forum or in chat could meet in person. There were always a few DeLoreans on site - the car that served as the time machine in the trilogy.
On 19th September 2026, the first meeting after a 14-year break took place. This time, it wasn't organized or announced in any grand, open way beforehand, but was explicitly planned as a "reunion" of the "old-timers". That's why, for the first time, it wasn't organized through our BTTF forum, but via WhatsApp with the contacts we'd kept over the years. As a result, there were ultimately 10 of us in attendance.
Following in the footsteps of the meeting held almost exactly 20 years ago, we visited the Film Museum in Frankfurt am Main once again.
So on Saturday morning, I drove to Frankfurt in K.I.T.T. This time, I didn't have to drive alone; instead, I was able to take my buddy Ormau from Leipzig with me. He is the second member ever to register in our ZIDZ.COMmunity - after myself as the webmaster - and was also there at our first ZidZ fan meeting in 2003! Since Ormau's in-laws live in Erfurt, I was able to pick him up right there.

Our first meeting point was the parking garage at the Römer in downtown Frankfurt, where we arrived after a roughly 3-hour drive. It was surprisingly crowded there today, so some of us even had to park elsewhere in the end, but at least Kathy and Markus were able to park their DeLorean next to K.I.T.T. Also in attendance were Sirius77 and BATMANdeluxe along with his girlfriend Nadine.

The remaining participants (n000g and corrado63 along with his son Marlon, who had also all been since 2003 - Marlon was 7 back then!) right in front of the Römer (Frankfurt's city hall), so we were able to take our first group photo with everyone present.
From there, we walked across the "Eiserner Steg" bridge over the Main River to the Film Museum, stopping first for lunch at a currywurst stand.

At 14:00, we went to the Film Museum. A lot has changed here since 2006, so it wasn't just a repeat of the previous exhibition, but an almost entirely new one.
A special exhibition was dedicated to the German director Wim Wenders. Corrado had organized a guided tour for us. Afterwards, we walked through the rest of the exhibition - which included the original Alien costume, the Darth Vader helmet, and many other props, green screens, and technical exhibits related to film.

At 16:00 , we headed back to the Römer - or rather, to the parking garages - to make our way from there to our next stop of the day.

Corrado had come up with something special as a photo spot for K.I.T.T. and the DeLoreans. The so-called "Old Gas Station", designed in the style of the 1960s, was a perfect fit for the "time machine" theme.
We parked the two DeLoreans and K.I.T.T. right in front of it and took some great pictures. It also gave us the chance to chat with each other, and the cars were a welcome highlight for enthusiastic passersby as well.

At 18:00, we parked the cars in a nearby parking garage and headed to the nearby restaurant "Das Leben ist schön" to round out the day with delicious Italian food and pleasant conversation.
And around 21:00, we headed back home - Ormau and I still had a nearly 3-hour drive ahead of us, after all - and arrived safely back in Erfurt shortly after midnight.

Conclusion: Our 14th ZidZ fan meeting was once again a huge success after a 14-year break. It was great to see the guys and girls again. We’ve decided that this won't be our last meeting. Maybe we can make sure the next one doesn't take place another 14 years from now - and maybe even more of the "old-timers" will be able to join us.
