Public celebration of German Unity Day in Ilmenau in 2025
  • On 3rd October 2025, a public festival was held in my old hometown of Ilmenau in Thuringia to celebrate the 35th anniversary of German reunification.
  • The Ilmenau city administration asked me to exhibit K.I.T.T. as an attraction for the celebrations. Since David Hasselhoff is known to have practically sung the Berlin Wall down himself, it was a very fitting theme. So I agreed... 😉
  • K.I.T.T. wasn't the only vehicle on display in the city park next to the Ilmenau festival hall. There were also numerous historic vehicles from East and West Germany on display, including old Wartburgs and Trabants. In addition, there was a colorful supporting program on stage, a small flea market, panel discussions, a fire department presentation, food trucks, and much more.
  • Fortunately, the weather was at its best. It was quite cold, but sunny and, above all, dry. That's not something to be taken for granted at this time of year. And so, throughout the day, thousands of visitors flocked to the site and K.I.T.T. once again proved to be a crowd puller.

  • Oh yes... of course, Hassehoff never claimed to have had anything to do with the fall of the Wall. In an interview with Cinema magazine, when asked this question, he merely expressed regret that there was no photo of his New Year's Eve performance at the Berlin Wall in 1989 on display at the Wall Museum at Checkpoint Charlie. No more and no less 😉
